“Milford receives the Healthy Schools Gold Standard Award”

Milford School received the Healthy Schools Gold Standard in 2007. This award
recognised how well the children are looked after at the school, how they
are encouraged to lead healthy lifestyles, and their attitude to those around them.
We now have an annual review to ensure the standard is being maintained,
and this was carried out and passed at the beginning of the year. Our
school has a very caring ethos and our standards of behaviour are excellent.
Some of the work we do on healthy lifestyles is apparent on our sports pages.
We were one of the first schools in Nottingham to move onto the Healthy Schools Enhancement Model.
As a result we are proud to be one of the first schools in Nottingham to achieve the Health and Well-Being
Improvement Award in the areas of ‘Emotional Health and Well-being’ and in ‘Substance Misuse’.

For Emotional Health and Well-being, we targeted attendance, perceptions of bullying and particular groups of children
feeling safe in and around school.
In the area of Substance Misuse we worked on the ability of pupils to identify risks in this area and to build up their
confidence to resist, as well as gaining a better understanding of the role of the school nurse. The staff in school
trained on identifying pupils ‘at risk’ and offering appropriate support or intervention. We worked towards the ‘Drugaware Award’,
which we achieved in March 2011. This included the involvement of parents and the whole school community.
