Welcome to Class 10

Updated 23 December 2011

Well the Christmas break seemed to take a long time to come but what a fantastic term we had leading up to it. Class 10 had yet another busy half term, especially with all of the performances we had to see and rehearse for.

We learned all about the aboriginal culture which meant in our PE lessons we were able to produce a fantastic aboriginal dance that we performed at our WOW event.

We also looked a lot at aboriginal music and art and the children had a fantastic time trying out the dot painting technique that is typical of aboriginal culture.

The children in Class 10 spent lots of their lessons learning about how to tell the time and that involved writing and photographing a daily timetable, writing a tv schedule and playing lots of time challenges on the interactive whiteboard. We looked a little at addition and subtraction but that is going to be our focus next term. The children have also enjoyed having mental maths every Thursday afternoon and have shown some improvements in their quick thinking maths skills. Next term we will be looking at some of the trickier mental maths questions and doing lots of practice work on those, which will involve mainly measuring, addition and subtraction.

Our science topic last term was all about sound and light and the children learned about the eyes and the ears and how they are used. Next term we will be thinking about living a healthy lifestyle and looking at a balanced diet and how to keep ourselves healthy.

Throughout the last term we have been continuing our contact with CHICKS and the children have been sending and receiving letters to and from their friends and team leaders in both Devon and Cornwall. This will be continuing throughout the next term also.

All children in Class 10 did a fantastic job in our Key Stage 2 Extravaganza and seemed to really enjoy learning all of the words to the songs; it really got them in a Christmassy mood!

A maths game to try
