Welcome to Class 8

Updated 23 December 2011

Hello and welcome to Class 8! We are a class of brilliant year 4 children and our teacher is called Miss Grant. We are very lucky this year as we also have the wonderful support of both Mrs Vaughan and Ms Sanderson.

Lots of exciting things have happened in the last half term and we have been extremely busy with the preparations for our Christmas Extravaganza. We have completed lots of work for our Topic, ‘Aboriginal Culture’. The children have completed Aboriginal art work using dots; they have created their own beats inspired by Aboriginal music and they have written an Aboriginal story.

We also took part in an end of topic Wow Event where parents were invited to come and see the children perform and show their Aboriginal work. .

The children have been busy in Literacy where we have been learning about ‘Stories from other Cultures’ and the children have been rewriting ‘The Egyptian Cinderella’. In Numeracy they have developed their knowledge of fractions, telling the time and multiplication.

Next half term the children will be learning all about ‘Robin Hood’. This will be a Design and Technology topic so as well as learning about the history of Robin Hood, the children will be developing their sewing skills. The children’s Literacy will link with the Robin Hood theme and they will concentrate on doing different types of non-fiction writing such as newspaper articles and information leaflets. In Numeracy the children will be working on their personal Maths Targets as well as learning more about decimals, adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers and multiplication and division. In Science they will be learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases.

Please ensure children bring their full P.E kits in on Monday and leave them in school until the Friday where they can take them home to be washed.

Reading diaries have been a real success so far at Milford Primary School, improving both the children’s reading and understanding of texts. These will continue to be used and the children will be asked to read every night and write a comment in their diaries about what they have read. Numeracy homework will be given out on the Monday and Spellings on the Thursday of each week.

We are looking forward to another fun year! Watch this space for lots of interesting and exciting updates about our work in Class 8!
