Welcome to Class 9

Updated 23 December 2011

We are Class 9!

Our Teacher is called Miss Rowe and we have Mrs Hickling and Mrs Vaughan working with us as Teaching Assistants. We are also lucky enough to have Mr Richardson coming in throughout the week to help us too!

This term in Class 9 we have been learning about lots of things. For our R.E. topic we learned all about ‘Beliefs in Action’. During this topic, we learned about Islamic Relief and Christian Aid. They are charities that help people throughout the world by raising money to send to other countries for people who are in need. It has really made us think about how lucky we are! In I.C.T we have been learning about ‘Control and Monitoring’. We especially enjoyed using Scratch to make our own animations. It was really fun!

We really enjoyed learning about Earth, Sun and Moon in Science too. It was fascinating learning how we get day and night and the different seasons. We have also really enjoyed our gardening this half term because we got to design our own new patch of land. We decided to plant lots of bulbs so that they bloom into beautiful flowers in spring. How exciting!

Lastly, a big thank you to Class 9 from Miss Rowe and Miss Hickling for the huge effort you put into our Christmas performance at the end of the Autumn Term, you really were amazing especially our solo guitarist!

This term in Numeracy we will be improving our mental maths and our knowledge of number. Alongside this we will be learning about fractions, factors and multiples. We will also be learning about written methods for addition, subtraction and multiplication. In literacy our topic will be ‘Novels from Significant Authors’ and we will be linking it to our World War Two (WWII) topic. We will be focusing on Private Peaceful’ by Michael Morpurgo and ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ by Anne Frank. We will be using these to write letters, diary entries and much more! Our topic the whole Spring Term is ‘World War Two’. We will be learning all about how the war affected children in Britain and Germany. This half term we will be focusing on Anne Frank and her life. In Science our topic will be ‘Changing States’. We are also lucky enough to have Miss Reedman working with us this half term who is in her third year of training, so we are very excited!

Finally, it is important to remember to have our P.E. kits in school every day. We need to bring them in on Monday and take them home on Friday. P.E. will continue to be on a Thursday afternoon. We also need to remember to read our books and fill in our reading diary every night. Miss Rowe and Miss Hickling expect us to have high quality entries, with presentation that is as good as that in our work books at school and entries that show we have thought carefully about what we have read. For our homework we have to fill out our Reading Diary every week night, learn our spellings and complete a piece of maths homework related to our topic in class.

A maths game to try
