Milford's Sensory Room

Inside the Sensory Room

At Milford Primary we have a Sensory Room, which is a therapeutic room designed to stimulate the senses. The Sensory Room is used for children with specific needs, which maybe educational, social or emotional, and range from mild to severe.

Children who attend the sessions in the Sensory Room, regardless of ability, gain a great deal of enjoyment in their own way. The trigger for this pleasure could be something as simple as going for the key to unlock the door.

The room was designed to remove the pressures that a classroom may present for children with disabilities, whilst at the same time offering an extension beyond the day to day activities that exist within a classroom. This relaxing and interactive room offers staff the opportunity to stimulate the children’s senses – encouraging responses to light, music and smell. Sensory integration, stimulating touch, taste, hearing, vision and smell through self initiated play that is constructive, comfortable and appropriate for individual children’s needs.

*Our thanks go to Nottingham City Transport Employees Charity Fund who raised the money to provide the Sensory Room projector which has already given great enjoyment to some of the children in our school.
